Deichtorhallen Internationale Kunst und Fotografie Hamburg
Since the invention of photography, the family has been the subject of photographic observation, both in private photo albums and in artistic series. From April 2 to July 4, 2021, 20 international photographic positions will address the theme of »Family« in the exhibition FAMILY AFFAIRS - FAMILY IN THE CURRENT PHOTOGRAPHY in the House of Photography at Deichtorhallen Hamburg.
The exhibition, compiled by Ingo Taubhorn, curator of the House of Photography, shows current artistic projects that make visible both the diversity of photographic approaches and the diversity of family models, ways of life and complex dynamics. The photographic gaze breaks through the everyday and questions prevailing norms. Traditional and new role models, intimate moments of being a parent and growing old, excessive demands and chaos are discussed as well as love, support and despair in one's own family.
In the selected series of well-known photographers from all over the world, subjective experiences and objective considerations are made visible that people share across borders. The exhibition FAMILY AFFAIRS can therefore also be understood as a transcontinental photographic discourse.
